Not only did the sun come out in our neck of the woods today, but Beauty Box 5 (BB5) made its appearance in our mailbox. They were a bit later in shipping this month (apparently awaiting an item or two for inclusion into this box) but kept everyone updated so all’s good. Well, everything’s all good provided this month’s box doesn’t include toothpicks and empty bottles (see my snarkalicious review of the November box…Oy!).

So many subscription box services are late in shipping this month that it actually makes me quite happy that I didn’t bother purchasing them as holiday gifts. Nothing says “thinking of you” than empty hands but a promise of arriving soon to a friend or loved one, right? Again, oy…

Since BB5 is one of the few subscription boxes that actually didn’t have their head buried in their nether regions for the December box, we’re already going to be a little biased in our review. Human nature and all…

Okay, let’s do a reveal of the contents:

Not a toothpick nor an empty bottle in sight…So far, so good, BB5!

First let’s snatch up that very prettily designed perfume sample. From Lucky Brand, this is their new fragrance Lucky Number 6. It’s a combination of fragrances, including lotus, tiger lily, cashmere woods, and jasmine, and it smells UH-MAZING. Light, fresh, crisp. I normally don’t care for overly flowery scents, but this one is quite lovely and not overpowering in the least. My daughter is going to want a full-sized bottle of this ASAP. Off to a grand start, BB5!

Next up is a sample of Juice Beauty’s Stem Cellular Moisturizer. I’m so stealing this from my daughter’s box (with her permission, of course). I’ve already received 2 Juice Beauty products in other sub boxes and LOVE them. This will be a great addition to the Green Apple Peel and the moisturizer I already have. This product is meant to use morning and evening over cleansed skin (I always wonder why this caveat is always included in instructions – are there really people out there who would apply a treatment over unclean skin?), and with its combination of organic, antioxidant-rich plant and fruit oils, to reduce the appearance of wrinkles, combat sun damage, and seriously hydrate the complexion. LOVE IT.

And how convenient is receiving this travel-sized Absolute! New York nail polish remover pads…I guess the good people at BB5 knew when we saw the next item coming up, we’d want to immediately remove our current polish and use the one in this month’s box, which is:

This is just all sorts of gorge and awesome in a bottle. By Nanacoco, this is their “Stardust” nail polish. It’s twinkling, it’s sequined, it’s sparkly, it’s copper, and it’s PERFECTION. Going on the nails as soon as this blog is published…Happy holidays, indeed!

And with the next-to-the-last amazing item in this month’s box, here we have an awesome rose hydrating facial mist from Jaqua Beauty. This subtle fragrance smells just like fresh-cut roses and a couple of spritzes to the face shows it dries without a trace of stickiness and has an amazing aromatherapy quality. Oh yeah, this is good stuff, BB5.

Now here’s a kicker. Included in this month’s box is a code to get a $50 retail value jewelry product from Lilee with your subscription to their new monthly box. Priced at $49/month, it’s a lifestyle box described on their webpage ( as: “Lilee knows what she likes- only the best!- and she’s picked out fabulous beauty and lifestyle products to share with you every month. There’s no better way to discover your next must-have lipstick, scarf, bauble or bling than to become a Lilee subscriber! Simply pick your plan below and prepare for $120+ worth of gorgeous goodies every month!” Although this subscription is a little pricier than I like to spend on the regular, I’m thinking it might be worth trying it out. If you’d like to subscribe, go to the previously-referenced website and enter the code BB5PERK to get your free $50 piece of jewelry with your subscription. Nice little offer, courtesy of BB5.

And there we have it, the December Beauty Box 5 (BB5). We totally approve. We still aren’t sure what they were thinking about last month what with toothpicks and empty bottles, but they’ve definitely reclaimed their status with us this month. Here again, besides the item or two that I intend to confiscate from my daughter’s box, these are all very usable and fun items. Not a single bomb in the box.

AWESOME OR AWFUL? Awesome. For $12/month, BB5 has proven yet again it’s a small monthly indulgence well worth the price.

Beauty Box 5 is running a special offer of a free box with subscription (code below). If you’d like more information on Beauty Box 5 or perhaps to sign up for it as a treat for the new year, here is my referral link to their website, as well as the link to the BB5 Facebook page:

This product was a huge hit in the FabFitFun summer box and apparently does wonders for hair of all types. I’m sure it’s a fabulous product but my old-school self doesn’t waiver from my tried-and-true hair miracle, John Frieda Frizz Ease, so time to pass this little jewel on to someone who will put it to good use.

So it begins, the delivery of October beauty boxes. Every reader of this blog who subscribes to any beauty boxes very well knows the excitement that goes with receiving the first box of the month and knowing the influx is starting.

First up, as usual, at Casa Beholding Eye is the October BeautyBox5. BB5 is a nice little subscription service that costs $12/month. Containing a mix of full-sized and sample-sized products, I subscribe to this one for my daughter. She loves this box and it always seems pretty well-suited to her as well. She actually received this yesterday but she was working, so I persuaded her to wait to sample anything until after I had a chance to take pictures for the blog.

So, here we go…The unboxing of the October BB5:

The BB5 theme this month is Effortless Allure.

And the reverse side of the card gives us a run down of this month’s products and their retail values:

Looks pretty good at first glance but let’s investigate further, shall we?

Oooh, now this is a handy little gadget. The SpattyDaddy is a long-handled miniature spatula that is specially designed to help the consumer get every last drop of that favorite lip gloss, serum, etc. I think we’ve all experienced the utter frustration of knowing there are still several applications’ worth of a product at the bottom of the container, even though it isn’t enough to be caught with an applicator or a pump. The SpattyDaddy has that covered, readers. Even if this hadn’t come in this BB5 box, it was definitely on the 10 Most Wanted List at Casa Beholding Eye. Awesome!!!

Lip balms of any kind are always welcome, especially with the cooler weather and chapped lips on the horizon. This is a full-sized Chapstick Hydration Lock double-ended lip balm. This will definitely be put to good use.

Next goody in the box is a sample size of Lashem Picture Perfect serum for fine lines that also works as a primer. At first I thought I could wrench this from my daughter’s perfectly manicured little fingers, but no such luck…Turns out this baby doubles as a primer for those not yet worried about wrinkles!
(RETAIL VALUE: $3.95 for full sized product)

Shades of awesomeness…Here’s an absolutely GORGEOUS nail polish by Nanacoco called Surfer’s Dream. And a dream it is. Although I normally associate teal and its various incarnations as a summer color, this hue is especially deep and I actually think might work for early Fall, as well. Outstanding addition to our obscenely large polish collection.
(RETAIL VALUE: $3.95).

And, oh my my, saving (in my opinion) the best for the last is this little gem from Bella Pierre. It’s their Lip and Cheek Stain in Pink. What a lovely shade, perfect for my daughter (pinks don’t normally play well with my complexion, so I can’t arm wrestle her for this one). It blends beautifully and is a lovely, just-in-from-the-snow flush. She’ll definitely put this to good use. Maybe next month she’ll get a similar product in the peach family and we can play Rock, Paper, Scissors for it.
(RETAIL VALUE: $19.99).

As I said, BB5 is $12/month. This month’s box has 4 out of 5 full-sized products, with an estimated retail value of just over $30 (which doesn’t include the estimated value of the Lashem serum sample). Now, that’s what I call a deal, particularly when every single item in this box will be used and not tossed into the Makeup Graveyard (c’mon now, we all have one, right?).

If you’d like more information on Beauty Box 5 or perhaps to sign up for it, here are my referral link to their website as well as the link to the BB5 Facebook page:

Beauty Box 5 (BB5): Is it worth $10 a month?

Published August 11, 2014 by thebeholdingeye

Yes, my daughter and I are absolutely subscription box junkies. What an ingenious way to try a variety of products (both drugstore level and high-end level) and have fun at the same time. The middle of the month when these boxes start arriving is like Christmas every month.

Today was our big day for the Beauty Box 5 (BB5) delivery and it definitely did not disappoint.

Here’s what the Beauty Box 5 looks like when you open it:

<img src=” photo 20140811_122228_zps8abe2238.jpg” alt=”” />

Five products and a card which describes the products contained in the box and their retail value. This month’s was really a WIN with lots of bang for your buck.

And now let’s look at each product:

<img src=”http:// photo 20140811_121459_zps67d47d1c.jpg” alt=”” />

Makeup junkies that we are, of course this gorgeous lipgloss was the first product we snatched up. It’s by #Nanacoco and is a gorgeous shade aptly named “Carmel Latte.” It’s a beige/pink/golden color that is truthfully a color I would grab up at the drugstore and wear. LOVE it. RETAIL VALUE: $3.99.

<img src=”http:// photo 20140811_121443_zps3bd4765e.jpg” alt=”” />

The next item to find its way into our sweaty, greedy little palms was this stunning nail color by #StyleEssentials in the color “Kelly Green.” Again, AMAZING. This is a color both my daughter and I would scoop up at the drugstore. At this point, we’re wondering if BB5 is stalking our social media and handpicking items PERFECT for our tastes. RETAIL VALUE: $7.00.

(Okay, for those of you keeping track, just those 2 full-sized items above would cost more than the monthly subscription fee…As Charlie Sheen would say, “WINNING!!!”

<img src=”http:// photo 20140811_121511_zps7cb6cadc.jpg” alt=”” />

Tearing ourselves away from the lipgloss and nail polish, this perfectly compact 8-pack of travel facial wipes catches our eyes. One can never have too many travel packs of facial wipes…for the car, in the purse, in the desk, just about anywhere, these gems come in handy. This is courtesy of the brand #LaFreshGroup.  They immediately went into my daughter’s purse. RETAIL VALUE: A 48-pack would be $19.99, so this sample is therefore in the $7-8 range.

<img src=” photo 20140811_121547_zps20a39875.jpg” alt=”” />

My daughter has a famously huge mane of gorgeous thick, naturally curly hair that hits her at about hip level. Hair products of any kind are always welcome in the BB5 box, and this month did NOT disappoint. Here, we have a full-sized 4-ounce bottle of #ROUXBeauty Anti-Aging Hair Serum. ROUX is a big drugstore brand that’s been around for as long as I can remember. I believe it’s claim to fame is for wash-in hair colors in just about any color one can imagine…only temporary and wash out easily (conversely, my mother once used one of their red rinses and it unexpectedly rained outside…I still have nightmares of being a 5-year-old and seeing streaks of bright red running down her face as she walked me to school…). I’m glad to see they’re branching out into other more on-trend products. This will definitely be used by my grateful daughter. RETAIL VALUE: $11.99.

<img src=”http:// photo 20140811_121526_zpsc5f6a24a.jpg” alt=”” />

Last but definitely not least is this travel-sized #Purlisse SPF-30 moisturizer. It seems all of the subscription boxes have been Pur-Lisse fanatics this season (and I personally will be relieved to have sunscreen products, no matter how fabulous, disappear from my boxes), but this brand is very high-end and very effective. It works very well on bare skin or under makeup. RETAIL VALUE: $55 for a 1.7-ounce tube; this is a 0.5-ounce tube, so this product would have a retail value of about $9.

So, let’s do the math here (and I suck at math so bear with me): 9 + 11.99 + 7.50 + 7.00 + 3.99 = Approximately $50.

Is BB5 worth the $10 subscription fee? I’d call $50 worth of products for $10 an absolute steal.

If you’d like to try out BB5 for yourself check it out here:

Consider subscription an early (and year-round) holiday gift for yourself. It’s definitely well worth it.
